The 1891 census of England and Wales was held on Sunday 5th April, the total population being estimated to be 28,999,725 and some additional information was collected. Thus, the number of rooms [if less than five] occupied by each household was recorded and employment status, i.e.
Employer, Employed, or Neither Employer nor Employed [self-employed], was recorded as well as the occupation.
