Notes: The disused Burial Ground was closed and the remains moved to Coney Hill Cemetery, the grounds were then converted into a playing field.

On the 25th July 1938 a small informal ceremony to mark the conclusion of the scheme took place in the recreation grounds made available for St Michael’s school. Appreciation of the generosity and public spirit of the Jewish community in making it possible for the children to have adequate room for play was expressed and a plaque bearing the following inscription has been fixed to the wall of the playground:

“This ground, formerly a Jewish cemetery, was given by the Jews of this country in the year 1938 as a playground for children.”

A further plaque can be found at the fenced section of Coney Hill:
“Here lie the remains of a number of persons of the Jewish faith formerly interred in the old Jewish cemetery adjoining St Michael’s school, and removed hither in April 1938 when that cemetery was given by the Jews of this country as a playground for the children of Gloucester.”
