- From the Hebrew inscription: On Thursday, the first day of Rosh Hashanah, his soul departed;
And he was buried with honour on the morrow, the eve of Shabbat, in the year 5622 (actually it reads "known in the gates" in Hebrew, appropriate for a Dayan/Judge, and the Gematria of "the Gates" is 622); eighty years of age when he died;
and he was a "teacher/guide" (the Hebrew term is also appropriate for a Dayan) of his community here for twenty six years.
