    34 A BOOK OF VERSE BY KATIE MAGNUS, LONDON GEORGE ROUTLEDGE & SONS, LIMITED. BROADWAY HOUSE, LUDGATE HILL, E.G. 1905

    TO THE DEAR MEMORY OF MY DEAREST BROTHER,
    BARROW EMANUEL, FEB. 4, 1842 FEB. 14, 1904

    I cannot think of you, dear,
    Afar, in Heaven, with "wings";

    I think your rest must be quite near,
    Among the old loved things.

    I cannot see you when I weep,

    Nor hardly when I pray ;
    You do not come in dreams or sleep,

    But close in common day.

    In every day's most quiet need

    I feel you stand beside
    The human, that, dear, was your creed :

    To me you have not died.

    EMANUEL Barrow (I9115)

    35 A fragment of a stone found in London Wall face down in 1753 and reported in Gentleman's Magazine. Estimated at the time to have been placed in the wall 538 years earlier based on Stow's reference to the Barons coming to London, destroying the homes of Jewish people and then using them to rebuild the walls of the city. Its not unreasonable to suppose that the same was done with tombstones taken from the Jews Garden Cemetery.

    The fragment is said to commemorate Nahum (Nathan or Nathaniel). The original sketch is now at the British Library.
